Mountain Hardware Approach, Compact 2-person, lightweight tent

The Mountain Hardware Approach Tent is a very lightweight free-standing tent. The base weight is 5 lbs. 6 oz., but the minimum weight (without stakes and accessories) is only 4 lbs. 8 oz. For a compact 2-person, three-season tent it’s pretty impressive that this tent is free-standing - and on sale for only $164.97, with free shipping from Altrec.com, the price makes it even better.

The design of the tent, with two poles and a brow pole, help to keep it light and almost as spacious as the Mountain Hardware Waypoint tent or the PCT tent, but it stands upright without any stakes in the ground. Also the tent has an 8.5 square foot vestibule, something the other tents don’t have, which helps this tent seem a lot bigger than those two. The large, mesh windows should help to circulate air and make this a great, cool summer tent. Unless you’re a fan of ultralight gear, the 31.75 square foot of floor-space is pretty small, but it will still fit tall campers since it’s over 8 feet long.

My opinion, at under 5 lbs. this tent will be a delight to carry on long backpacking trips. It will be a great tent if you sometimes sleep alone on trips or primarily camp in hot areas or seasons with good weather, where you won’t spend too many days stuck in a small tent becasue of rain.
