I really want a new down jacket. Not that I need one right now, but there have been a lot of changes and new designs this season - and most of the new models are on sale right now.
One of the models on sale is the women’s Mountain Hardwear Phantom down jacket. Not many sizes left, but the new 2006 model is 28% off now, just $163.93 at REI-Outlet. (No direct-links at REI, so when you get there search for item: #750302 to go straight to the jacket.)
The Flash down jacket from The North Face is 20% off at Backcountry.com. That’s $183.16 for one of the lightest men’s down jackets around (not counting the pullovers or models with no handwarmer pockets). With narrow-stitched baffles the Flash may not be the warmest down jacket around - narrow baffles mean less rom for down to loft into), but the jacket is super-compressible and easy to carry at just 12 ounces and filled with 900-fill power down.
