The May coupon at Sierra Trading Post is good for free shipping on all orders of $100 and more. Free shipping may not sound like the best coupon in the world, but it’s a good chunk of change when most of the camping gear and outdoor clothing at Sierra Trading Post is already bargain-priced.

REI Coupon: 20% Off One Item, May 4-13th
A big, fat 20% off coupon for any full-price item at REI is in my Saturday LA Times today. No need to run out and try to track one down though, the 20% off coupon is part of REIs anniversary sale and is good on orders placed by mail and phone too. Just mention coupon code ANNV7 at phone checkout or enter it into the coupon code box online and it will apply to the highest-priced camp, hike, or sports gear in your cart - with some exclusions, see small print paraphrased below.

Altrec Anniversary Sale - Starts This Weekend
Altrec’s 8th anniversary sale started today and they’ve sent a huge amount of outdoor gear to the sale section. Advertisements on their site and the web say “up to 60% off” but most items are 20-30% off. The sale is still worth visiting though, since the selection of items on sale is huge and 20-30% off isn’t a thing to turn your nose up at. Items on sale incluse Osprey and Arc’teryx backpacks, Merrll and Vasque boots, jackets & fleece from The North Face and Patagonia, and even getting-ready-for summer surf trunks and bikinis.
Despite the sale Altrec is keeping their offer of free shipping on orders of $45+, plus no sales tax if your outside of Oregon (or inside, since that state doesn’t have sales tax).

The other day a friend who I’d always thought of as a deal-seeker told me they probably wouldn’t bother with any sale for 10% or less off. I don’t know if that’s really the case, since they’ve gone to great lengths in the past to use two 20% off one item per person coupons, but I did think of them when Sierra Trading Post released their April coupon.
Good for 7% off any order of $95 and up. Maybe not enough to motivate new visitors to buy, but their already low prices on new, brand name gear keep me going back - and I sure won’t turn down an extra 7% off if I’m already planning to buy.
$230 - Sierra Designs Trade Wind 15° 800-Fill Down Sleeping Bag
Sierra Designs’ Trade Wind down sleeping bag is more expensive than a lot of the sleeping bags I’ve been posting, but a bargain at $229.97. The bag is all decked out with 800-fill power down and a DriZone waterproof/breathable bag shell. You’re stuck with the long size with a left-side zipper, but 35% off a 15-degree down bag that only weighs 3-pounds, 2-ounces and has a lifetime warranty from Sierra Designs may be worth the inconvenience.
$55 - Bargain on the Marmot Aspen 20-degree Sleeping Bag
The Marmot Aspen sleeping bag is a bargain at $55 from Sierra Trading Post. The polyester shell and synthetic, SpiraFil insulation are rated to 20° F. They may not last for years like some of the new Polarguard insulations, but for just $55 the bag is a bargain on a Marmot bag with their great warranty. The Aspen sleeping bag is around 3 lbs. 12 ounces in a roomy, long, 6’6” length.

Sierra Designs Women’s Down Sleeping Bags, 30% Off
Need to stay warm during late fall or early winter camping trips? Take a look at the Sierra Designs Mist down sleeping bag. The Mist is filled with 800-fill power down and rated to 0° F (sorry non-US readers, that’s about -18° C). But, this a a top=of-the line sleeping bag and the shell is made form Sierra Designs’ waterproof, breathable DriZone fabric. It may not be enough to get rid of the bivy sack, but it will keep the down dry no matter how much condensation drips from the tent or how much snow blows in an open tent door. It’s not the greatest discount ever, but it’s probably the same as about 10-15% off any $100-200 order - and with all the discounts, and the fact that I don’t want to go out and hunt for parking at a mall, I tend to shop at Sierra Trading Post whether they have a coupon out or not.

The key to getting the feature-filled, roomier Sirius tent even lighter than Sierra Design’s clip flashlight is a 3/4 fly. That means this is NOT a 4-season or 3.5-season tent, so don’t risk cold weather or snow in this one. Compared to single-wall tents in warmer weather though, this thing will be like a luxury hotel room with tons of mesh and ventilation. In fact, this may be my new favorite hot-weather and summer backpacking camping tent.
