Despite the average markdown the Wicked synthetic t-shirt is a favorite of mine because it doesn’t hold odor like most synthetic t’s but still dries blazingly fast. Very, very nice. The men’s Arc’teryx Epsilon AR Jacket is a soft shell jacket by my own heart. It’s a trim-fitting jacket to save weight, stay out of the way, and not feel like your wearing three cotton sweatshirts while you’re running around outside. Also, rather than trying to cover all possible weather conditions – and ending up both more-expensive and worse-off than a typical GoreTex shell – the Epsilon AR keeps things simple and just blocks wind and cold. No waterproofing here. It’s not needed either, because when you’re moving around in the winter the only water coming down is snow and I hope your not moving so slow that it has a chance to melt on your shoulders.

This is another one-day sale from Steep and Cheap, so if you’re a size XL it’s your lucky day, as long as you get to it before they sell out.

Fleece seems to get a bad rap from all the ultralight backpackers lately. They claim down or Primaloft are the only things worth carrying. That may be true if you’re not carrying a sleeping bag and covering 25 miles a day, but there’s very little that’s as versatile as the new 100-weight/lightweight “active” fleeces for a chilly night or morning on a spring/summer/fall camping trip or even the middle of winter when you’re stomping through deep snow. $134.99 – Performance Bike Travel Trac Century Fluid Trainer

Performance Bike’s Travel Trac fluid trainer may be one of the least expensive fluid trainers on the market – and it’s a bargain on sale at $134.99 – but it’s also one of the best trainers I’ve ridden. A friend of mine picked one up several years ago and those of us who had dropped the extra cash for a Cyclops or Minoura trainer found we were pretty disappointed that we had. If you’re looking for a cycling tainer the Performance Bike Century models are worth looking at.

The Travel Trac Century trainers have a great clamp. Since one side of the clamp doesn’t move at all your bike doesn’t rock back and forth like it does on my Minoura trainer. The fluid resistance unit on the Performance trainer is also designed well enough that my friend’s unit is almost six years old and hasn’t had any leakage. Compared to the Cyclops trainers that’s a miracle, since other friends I’ve ridden with have had to warranty their Cyclops trainers almost every year because of leakage.

One thing to check out though, the Performance Travel Trac Millenium trainer is a redesigned model. It looks like it has the same clamp design but the fluid unit is different, plus it’s more exensive so you may want to demo it before buying the Millenium model.
