It’s softshell+waterproof from the Spraymaster shell. From Patagonia, this shell is a fully waterproof, breathable jacket made completely with stretch shell fabric. That gives it a lot of extra flexibility and a trimmer fit than normal waterproof shells and gets it pretty close to most soft shells. Of course, soft shells have nothing on it in terms of protection in wet and nasty weather and few can match its 10.5-ounce weight.

The November coupon for Sierra Trading Post is out. Actually it has been for over a week, but I had a vacation and got sick in the middle there.
It’s not a great coupon, just free shipping on $75 an up orders. The REI winter sale is on now. This season the sale looks good, really good. Waterproof, breathable shells keep getting lighter and more breathable. The one good thing about new fabrics like GoreTex Proshell is that the older fabrics don’t get any worse – but they do get cheaper. And, since Proshell is more about durability than lightness, other shells definitely are bargains at some of these closeout prices.
