$78.31 – Men’s Arc’teryx Epsilon AR Jacket, 56% Off
Very, very nice. The men’s Arc’teryx Epsilon AR Jacket is a soft shell jacket by my own heart. It’s a trim-fitting jacket to save weight, stay out of the way, and not feel like your wearing three cotton sweatshirts while you’re running around outside. Also, rather than trying to cover all possible weather conditions – and ending up both more-expensive and worse-off than a typical GoreTex shell – the Epsilon AR keeps things simple and just blocks wind and cold. No waterproofing here. It’s not needed either, because when you’re moving around in the winter the only water coming down is snow and I hope your not moving so slow that it has a chance to melt on your shoulders.
This is another one-day sale from Steep and Cheap, so if you’re a size XL it’s your lucky day, as long as you get to it before they sell out.
$69.97 – Nike Air Zoom Orizaba Plus Trail Running Shoe
![]()
The Nike Orizaba trail running shoe is on sale at Altrec. Based on the fit and last it looks alot like it’s a trail-oriented version of the classic Nike Pegasus shoe. That doesn’t mean the Orizaba is just a road running shoe with a toe guard though – on top of the sticky rubber outsole, drainage ports, and forefoot plate the Orizaba also sports Zoom Air units in front and back to keep your foot closer to the trail to increase stability (and also reduce the chance of rolling an ankle) plus a detachable ankle gaiter to keep out scree, sand, and snow – you know, those times when you should have brought boots but decided “ultralight” was cooler.
There’s also free shipping on these shoes or any order of $45+ at Altrec.
25% Off Patagonia Clothing at Altrec.com

Patagonia’s clothing and gear is the best-of-the-best, and now’s the time to score a good deal on it. Altrec has an “up to” 25% off sale on Patagonia shells, Capilene, pants, and backpacks. Not everything is on sale (and since this morning some sale items have already sold out in some popular sizes) but there are some R.5 tops, Capilene long underwear, a load of fleece jackets & pants, and a soft shell or two are still available in all sizes. Also, Altrec’s free shipping on orders over $99 still covers these sale items. This sale on Patagonia gear lasts until September 30, 2007.
Coupon: $10 Off $200+ SummitOnline

Summit Online has a big selection of closeout skis and snowboards. All new, but all on sale just because they’re not the newest colors. They have free shipping on all orders over $99 and you can use coupon code AFF10OFF at check out, for an extra $10 off any order of $200 and up (expires January 31, 2007).
Altrec 25% Off Sale Items Coupon
Altrec.com always has a great selection of outdoor equipment on sale (admittedly, not always exactly what I need for any given trip) and now they’ve upped the ante on their sale and clearnace sections. Use the coupon code grg25off to get 25% off any items already on sale (expires 9/15/2006).
Coupon: 25% Off Endurox and Accelerade Sports Drinks
I’m a big fan of drinking sports drink on the trail. It helps me to drink more than plain water and the extra flavors hide the funny taste of of iodine treated water (I’ve been treating water with iodine even after filtering it, ever since I watched a Pur promo-video of about animals and bacteria in the water). Getting in a few extra calories seems to help too, since I’m not quite as starved and rushed to get a meal cooked in the evening.
If you’ve ever used either Endurox or Accelerade drink mix you may like their new vanilla and chocolate flavors. You’ll also like that the coupon code SAVE06 knocks 25% off the price from www.accelerade.com.
One tip though, keep all sports drinks out of your hydration bladders or you’ll be replacing them every time you dump your gear in a hot trunk for the drive home.
Moosejaw Lowdown = Daily Camping Gear Deal
The Moosejaw Lowdown is a new daily-deal site from the guys at the Moosejaw Mountaineering shop. It works a lot like Woot – which is that each day, around midnight, they post one item for sale at a major discount. It’s available at that price until it sells out, or until around midnight the next day when the item changes.
Right now the Lowdown deal is a pair of Garmont Men’s Syncro midweight hiking boots on sale for $63.98, that’s 60% off.
15% Off at Sierra Trading Post on $125+ Orders

Sierra Trading Post released their September coupon and it’s better than last month’s “free shipping” deal. Take 15% off orders of $125 and up (expires October, 5, 2006) – as usual click through these links and it will apply to your shopping cart automatically when you order gets to $125.
$44.90 – Katadyn Hiker Water Filter, 25% Off
The Katadyn Hiker water filter is the top-rated filter for hiking and camping. The smaller size and lighter weight even get it rated above its big-brother filter, the Guide.
Can’t beat the sale price at BackcountryOutlet.com right now either. Plus, toss in an extra water bottle or at least $5.10 worth of stuff to get free shipping.
$63.68 – Katadyn Guide Water Filter, 25% Off
Continually top-rated, the Katadyn Guide water filter (formerly the “Pur” Guide) is 25% off now, at BackcountryOutlet.com. Note, this is the high-capacity model that’s great for bigger groups – or if you just don’t like to spend much time pumping your water before hitting the trail. That’s me (rushing to get on the trail, that is) so this is the same filter I’ve been carrying for about 7 years now. … and it’s still working after all those years too.
Plus, to make this good filter an even bigger bargain it ships free too.
If the size or weight of the Guide is a bit big, check out 25% off the Katadyn Hiker filter too.
