  • $127.96 – Mountain Hardwear Mountain Jet 2-person Tent Clearance

Like the 3-person version I posted about earlier (here: review of Mountain Jet 3 tent) the Mountain Hardware Mountain Jet 2 is a 2-person, 3-season backpacking and basic camping tent with a lot of space and good ventilation that still has a light weight, due to the hybrid single/double-wall construction. The $127.96 price is a bargain for any high=end tent with a lifetime warranty, and Mountain Hardware will be around to back up the warranty too. Despite the bargain price the Mountain Jet 2 is a new design with great space, 41 square feet of floor space, for a 2-person tent but weights just 6 pounds, 4 ounces. The new welded seam construction helps to keep the weight down, increases durability, and leaves no thread-holes for water to seep through during any unfortuante, multi-day downpours in the backcountry.

Also, since the tent is over $75 don’t forget the Sierra Trading Post $10 off coupon.

$147.96 – Mountain Hardwear Mountain Jet 3-person Tent, 44% Off

The 3-Person, 3-Season Mountain Hardwear Mountain Jet tent has a massive 48 square-feet of space, but weighs just 6 pounds, 10 ounces – light enough for any hiking trips and backpacking trips with 3 people to split the tent weight up. Great for tall campers with 7 feet, 4 inches of length and several campers plus a dog. The Mountain Jet uses a hybrid single/double-wall design and several massive vents to keep the tent cool and dry. Expect great durability from this multi-pole design too; Mountain Hardware’s great quality is here, plus their lifetime warranty, and a more durable & lighter welded seam construction.

Also, since the tent is over $75 don’t forget the Sierra Trading Post $10 off coupon.

Top-rated Daypacks and Backpack Sale Roundup

Arcteryx M20 top-rated daypackA friend just asked if any good weekend-sized daypacks were on sale. This is a big category with some packs having lighter versions of full-pack frames/harnesses and others just having well-shaped shoulder straps (no book bags here) and a fabric waist belt. The one thing I would look for is a hydration pouch to keep all that water from sloshing around, though you can slip any hydration sleeve into any well-packed pack. Here’s a round up of packs that are on sale or rated as best buy’s by one or more gear reviews or backpacking magazines:

$134.99 – Performance Bike Travel Trac Century Fluid Trainer

Performance Bike’s Travel Trac fluid trainer may be one of the least expensive fluid trainers on the market – and it’s a bargain on sale at $134.99 – but it’s also one of the best trainers I’ve ridden. A friend of mine picked one up several years ago and those of us who had dropped the extra cash for a Cyclops or Minoura trainer found we were pretty disappointed that we had. If you’re looking for a cycling tainer the Performance Bike Century models are worth looking at.

The Travel Trac Century trainers have a great clamp. Since one side of the clamp doesn’t move at all your bike doesn’t rock back and forth like it does on my Minoura trainer. The fluid resistance unit on the Performance trainer is also designed well enough that my friend’s unit is almost six years old and hasn’t had any leakage. Compared to the Cyclops trainers that’s a miracle, since other friends I’ve ridden with have had to warranty their Cyclops trainers almost every year because of leakage.

One thing to check out though, the Performance Travel Trac Millenium trainer is a redesigned model. It looks like it has the same clamp design but the fluid unit is different, plus it’s more exensive so you may want to demo it before buying the Millenium model.
