  • $199.95 – Marmot Women’s Pinnacle Down Sleeping Bag

Marmot Women's Pinnacle down sleeping bagThe women’s Marmot Pinnacle down bag is a 15-degree, 800+ fill-power down sleeping bag with plenty of heat-keeping features. Marmot thought this one through and really did design it for women.

The Pinnacle bag is slightly wider in the hip area than men’s bags are, for a bit of extra room to toss and turn. Still, it’s down-sized for a 5-foot, 6-inch (5′ 5″ according to BackcountryOutlet.com) person and has a foot area with extra down and 11 vertical baffles to help keep that area extra toasty. Still the toal weight is just 2-pounds, 9-ounces. Sub-3 pounds and under $200 for a true 15-degree bag is a pretty good deal. Topping off this deal are the lifetime Marmot warranty and free shipping from BackcountryOutlet.com.

$39.97 – Patagonia Extension Cord Pants

patagonia-extension-cord-pantsGreat activewear cords made from organic cotton, the Extension Cord pants from Patagonia look like regular casual pants but are designed for activewear use. Unnoticable tweaks include seams offset so they don’t rub under a harness or backpacking waistbelt, low-profile button fly, and a Gi-crotch for freedom when leaping and climbing.

Oh yeah, the pants are about $40, and Altrec.com offers free shipping on $45+ orders. You can probably save about $5 on shipping if you add another item to your cart.

$54.57 – Metolius #9 Fat Cam, 30% Off and Backcountry.com Climbing Shoe Sale

Ignore this one if you’re not a climber: Metolius’ #9 Fat Cam is being cleared out at Backcountry.com. These are 4-cams with wider than normal cams to distribute pressure better and eliminate “tracking” in soft rock. they still hold equally well in hard rock, but the #9 is about 3/8-inch wider than a standard cam, so it won’t fit into small pockets as well as a standard 4-cam, much less a 3-cam.

Also, Backcountry.com has a sale this week on climbing shoes from Scarpa and La Sportiva, they’re being cleared out 25-40% off.

    $244.47 – The North Face Pivotal/Catalyst 60 Backpacks, Men’s and Women’s Sizes

The Pivotal 60 (also sold as the Catalyst) backpack from The North Face is a 60- to 65-liter pack with a system designed to transfer weight to the hips and make carrying bulky loads lighter. This is the highest-end system from The North Face and looks to be the next-generation of the ArcFlex shoulder-to-hip stays that Marmot packs use (same system designed and used by Dana Designs before they merged with Marmot). In this Pivotal backpack, there are multiple stays that all push up on the spine and shoulder areas of the pack so the system supports weight in any body position – great for tough trails and canyoneering when your need to be able to handle the pack instead of it handling you.

Both the men’s and women’s versions of the Pivotal 60 are 30% off at BackcountryOutlet.com too:

    $140.63 – Women’s Arc’teryx Theta SL Jacket

Just $140.63 for the Women’s Arc’teryx Theta SL Jacket is a top-end hardshell made with panels of both GoreTex PacLite and XCR. This is the women’s model, but I like everything about the men’s model except the full price: $375 when not on sale. It’s just 13.5 ounces, cut trim so it doesn’t bunch under pack shoulder straps & waistbelts, and the hood is well-designed (fits over a ski or climbing helmet, but snugs enough that it doesn’t fall over your eyes when you dn’t have a helmet on).
